Butter from the parish of LogieraitThere are four distinct families sharing the same parts of Logierait churchyard. No direct connection has been established between them, but joint rights to these areas within the churchyard are recorded in the interment register, helpd by Perth & Kinross Council at Pitlochry. As such, they are being treated as parts of the same wider family. -
Butter from Dalnabo The tenancy of this Logierait farm was held from at least the early 18th century. The earliest proven connection is to my 5 times great grandfather David BUTTER who was married to Margaret REID around 1758. Earlier references to BUTTERs at this farm have still to be linked in. These are my direct family. Their son John BUTTER, farmer at Dalnabo, married Elpeth McLAGAN at Moulin in 1787 and their son John BUTTER, wright, married Alison MITCHELL at Edinburgh in 1802 but returned with her to have family at Dalnabo. John & Alison's son David BUTTARS married Christina Henderson BROWN at Blairgowrie in 1854. My great grandfather was their third son John James BUTTARS, textile factory tenter and later gardener, who married Emily Butchart MacPHERSON at Coupar Angus in 1888. They moved to Dundee around 1900 and my grandfather Robert Grant BUTTARS, textile representative, was born there in 1905. He married Hilda Jessie LAVEROCK in 1928, the same year my father, Thomas Laverock BUTTARS, textile sales representative, was born. He married my mother Audrey Whyte HAY in 1961. Butter from Balnamuir There were Butters at this farm, in the parish of Little Dunkeld, from at least the early 18th century. The oldest Butter stone in Logierait churchyard is to Duncan BUTTER, Balnamuir, and his wife Margaret REID, who were married in 1730. This family consists of a number of strands which I have not linked completely together yet: Robert BUTTER married Grace ROBERTSON in 1790 and Patrick BUTTER married Catherine ROBERTSON about 1786. -
Butter from Balentyler There were Butters at this Logierait farm (also known as Balnatalleran and similar) since at least the later 18th century. The earliest known so far is farmer David BUTTER, who married Janet FERGUSON about 1760. Another account of this family history can be seen on the Rootsweb databases of direct descendants Cathryn Fahey, Mary Reed and Cheralynn Wilson. -
Butter from Balachallan James Butter married Isobel McIntosh or Toshach around 1757. Thier son Donald married Christian McFarlane in 1797. Their son James married Janet MacIntosh in 1823 and they lived at Kindallachan, parish of Dowally. I am in contact with a descendant in Canada. |
